When choosing music for your wedding ceremony, it can be pretty overwhelming! Well, don’t worry, I’m here to help! As a UK based wedding harpist who has performed at over 250 weddings, I think I’ve got a pretty good idea of what works and what, um, doesn’t… So let’s go through it! 1 – A Thousand Years by Christina Perri Unsurprisingly, this ever popular song is top of our list. And it’s no surprise, with over 20 of my couples requesting it for their entrance into the wedding ceremony. 2 – All of Me by John Legend This is such a beautiful song, and instantly recognisable. I learnt this to play my friend down the aisle and I always think of her when I play it. 3 – Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley One of the most romantic songs I play as a wedding harpist, this song works perfectly for every part of your wedding ceremony. 4 – Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles Such an uplifting tune! I love playing this song, it never fails to put a smile on my (and your guests’) faces. Try this as a song for leaving your ceremony, I promise it’s the perfect way to step into married life! 5 – A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman I’m often asked to play this song for the processional (walk down the aisle) and if I’m honest, I don’t know if it works! But for the signing of the register, it’s perfect! The song has such a lovely musical arc that by only hearing the first few bars for the entrance, you don’t get the full effect. 6 – Perfect by Ed Sheeran This love song has been a popular choice ever since it was first released and I love playing it. It’s recognisable, romantic and perfect for your entrance into the ceremony, or the signing of the register. 7- Your Song by Elton John Does anyone NOT love this song?! For the signing of the register, you can’t get much better than a classic love song played on the harp, it’s utterly romantic! 8 – How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding Again, such a beautiful song. I’m so privileged to play so many lovely pieces of music as a wedding harpist, but this might be one of my favourites! This is a great choice for your entrance, or signing of the register. 9 – Canon in D by Pachelbel It’s a classic for a reason! This is my number 1 recommendation for walking down the aisle, as the piece can be stopped at any point so regardless of how large your wedding party, or long your aisle is, you’ll always have beautiful music! 10 – Marry You by Bruno Mars Another favourite of mine, this is such a fab song to leave your ceremony to. Your guests will be singing along (trust me, it happens!) as they leave and getting into the party spirit! So there we have it, my top 10 choices for ceremony music. If you’ve always wanted a harpist at your wedding, and like the sound of these songs played on such a romantic instrument, then get in touch to start your wedding music ball rolling!
