Unprecedented.
Historic.
Dangerous.
Akin to wartime.

There are so many words that have been used to describe this momentous year that we've just lived through. And yes, it's been incredibly tough. But we're also here to tell the tale of 2020, a year like no other. In a year where I performed at just 13% of the weddings I was booked at, it would be easy to cast the last twelve months off as a waste. But looking back through my diary and photos, there have been some great moments. Here's a few highs and lows from the last 12 months:

My Top 10 Christmas Films

Every year when December rolls around, I explode like a festive bomb. I adore Christmas and everything that comes with it. The music, the jumpers, my candy cane earrings (yes I am wearing them as I write this) and of course the films. Each year brings with it a raft of new festive films but for me, the old ones are the best. Here's my run down of my Top 10 Christmas Films...

Ain't Misbehavin'

A Fats Waller classics, this jazzy number is an absolute delight to play!

Expertly arranged for harp by Ray Pool, Ain't Misbehavin' is a go-to for drinks receptions for me. Just to listen to it conjures up images of champagne glasses, sun shining on a happy couple and their guests.

Enjoy!

Top 5 Tips for Your Wedding Ceremony

As a harpist, I have lost count of the number of weddings I have performed at, but it's certainly over 150. While I'm not playing, I get quite nosy about what has been chosen for the day; what is personal to the couple and how they use the traditions of marriage to make the day special for them.

I have been lucky enough to see some really amazing wedding ceremonies and I have gone ahead and compiled my top 5 tips for your wedding ceremony, just to take some stress out of the planning for you...

    Welcome!

Welcome to the blog of Harriet Flather Musician!

I’ve wanted to do this for a while and now feel I have found sufficient inspiration to deliver content that you will find interesting and engaging! I’m hoping to cover a lot of different things here: a description of my week and give you an insight into the life of a freelance musician; some resources for music teaching; information on weddings such as music and why you should have a harpist; and finally I’m going to be bringing in some guests to chat to you about what they do as well!

I hope you enjoy, writing is a fairly new venture for me but it’s good to be back in the proverbial saddle.
