Classical Music for Your Wedding Day
When I first started playing the harp for weddings, I really only had classical music in repertoire - I had a very old school teacher who was amazing but didn’t really believe it anything modern on the harp! And truthfully, I didn’t know it was a thing either! But in the last 10 years, my repertoire has grown in every area, except classical.
That’s purely because classical music is so rarely requested for a wedding. This does make me a bit sad, every kind of music stems from classical music and it’s full of the most amazing melodies, harmonies and emotions. When I got married, we had almost exclusively classical music in our ceremony, mainly paying tribute to my musical career growing up.
Classical music doesn’t need to be heavy, it expresses the entire spectrum of human emotion and so is perfect for a wedding day. Below are some of my favourites to play on the harp for a wedding, some you will know, others you may not. But all work beautifully for your wedding ceremony or drinks reception.
