Why Classical Music Might Be the Perfect Soundtrack for Your Wedding Day

There’s something truly timeless about classical music—especially when it’s played live on the harp. As much as I adore performing modern covers (and trust me, I’ve done everything from Ed Sheeran to Taylor Swift!), there’s a special kind of magic that happens when I’m asked to play a purely classical set. It feels like returning to my roots. I trained as a classical musician, and those rich, expressive pieces still hold such a special place in my heart.

If you're in the middle of planning your big day and are thinking about your ceremony or drinks reception music, don't overlook classical options. Classical music isn’t just elegant—it’s evocative, emotional, and endlessly romantic. It creates an atmosphere that wraps your guests in warmth and wonder.

So, if you’re curious about what a classical wedding setlist could look like, here are a few of my favourites that I regularly recommend to couples:

🎶 Canon in D – Pachelbel
A wedding classic for good reason. It’s gentle, beautiful, and sets the perfect tone for a bride’s entrance.

🎶 Arrival of the Queen of Sheba – Handel
Upbeat, regal, and full of joyful energy—great for a grand entrance or a celebratory exit.

🎶 Berceuse – Brahms
This lullaby-like piece adds a dreamy, tender moment to your ceremony.

🎶 The Flower Duet – Delibes
Recognisable and hauntingly beautiful—ideal for walking down the aisle or during a signing.

🎶 I Giorni – Einaudi
A more modern classical piece that still keeps the emotion high and the vibes serene.

🎶 Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana – Mascagni
Rich and emotional, perfect for a moment of reflection.

🎶 Meditation from Thaïs – Massenet
Soaring, lyrical, and just utterly moving on the harp.

🎶 Merry Go Round of Life – Joe Hisaishi
From Howl’s Moving Castle, this is for the romantics who also love a cinematic flair.

🎶 Prelude in C Major – Bach
Simple and pure—perfect for pre-ceremony music.

🎶 River Flows in You – Yiruma
Not strictly classical, but its piano roots and romantic melody make it a wedding favourite.

If classical music is calling your name for your special day, I’d love to help you bring it to life on the harp. You can find out more or get in touch at www.harrietflather.co.uk/weddings.
