There is something truly special about live music after a meal. As an event harpist, I have had the privilege of performing at some of London’s most prestigious venues, including Stationers’ Hall, Vintners’ Hall, and Mercers’ Hall. These historic settings provide the perfect backdrop for an intimate recital, enhancing the guest experience in a way that recorded music simply cannot.

After-dinner music offers a moment of reflection and connection. It is a chance for guests to enjoy a shared experience, bringing an extra touch of elegance to the occasion. As a London harpist, I have performed at numerous Livery Company dinners, where short recitals of up to 15 minutes have been met with warmth and enthusiasm. Even among those who frequently attend such events, there is always a sense of delight in being so close to a harp and hearing it played live. The instrument’s ethereal sound creates an atmosphere that is both uplifting and immersive.

One of the joys of being an event harpist is tailoring my programme to the specific setting and audience. I always take care to consider the nature of the gathering and any particular guests who will be in attendance. Whether performing classical pieces, traditional folk melodies, or even well-known film themes, my aim is to complement the tone of the evening and add a unique, personal touch.

Live music has a way of transforming an event, leaving guests with lasting memories of an evening well spent. If you are planning a formal dinner or corporate event, consider the charm of after-dinner music—it may just be the perfect finishing touch to elevate the experience for your guests.
