Weddings are, quite rightly, all about personal touches. From the flowers you choose to the words in your vows, it’s the details that make the day unmistakably yours. One of the most powerful ways to personalise your wedding is through music. Live music, in particular, brings a sense of intimacy and character that can truly elevate the atmosphere. As a harpist, I’ve played at countless weddings over the years, and I’m always struck by how evocative music can be. It’s not just background; it’s a thread that weaves through the day, shaping the mood and highlighting the moments that matter. Whenever I hear the piece I walked down the aisle to, I smile because it takes me straight back to that moment. The scent in the air, the flutter of excitement, the faces of my soon-to-be-husband all come rushing back in an instant. That’s the power of music. What makes live music so special is its ability to connect people. Whether it’s a gentle, familiar melody that reminds you of a parent, or a vibrant tune that gets everyone’s toes tapping, music has a way of bringing people together. It can honour those who are no longer with us, or celebrate the people who mean the most to you. Sometimes, a couple will choose a piece because it reminds them of their grandparents’ favourite song, or a lullaby a parent used to hum. I’ve seen tears and laughter (sometimes at the same time!) all sparked by the right piece played at just the right moment. One of the things I always remind couples is that music preferences are so deeply personal. There’s no rulebook and your wedding music doesn’t have to include a certain piece just because it’s traditional. If you want to walk in to a film score, a 90s pop ballad, or your favourite video game theme, I say go for it. It’s your day, and your music should reflect who you are. The harp is an incredibly versatile instrument for this. People are often surprised by just how broad a repertoire I can offer. Classical, jazz, contemporary, even rock, the harp can interpret it all with elegance and warmth. It can be soft and subtle during the ceremony, joyful and bright for your drinks reception, and completely tailored to your taste. Choosing a live musician also means you’re not limited by set playlists or impersonal recordings. I work with each couple to make sure the music I play reflects them, and I ask what you don't want just as much as what you do want. Live music adds a touch of magic that a speaker simply can’t match. So if you’re planning your wedding and thinking about how to make it truly your own, I’d love you to consider live harp music as part of your day. It’s romantic, memorable, and undeniably special.
